Nerja is a typical whitewashed village in Andalucia, southern Spain. Nerja has avoided the massive development that has happened in other parts of the Costa del Sol. The famous Balcon de Europa is in the centre of the village. The old part of the village is a maze of small, cobbled streets with numerous bars and restaurants. Torrox 47 kilometres east of Malaga and 2 km inland from the coast and reached prosperous heights during the Moorish period due to its role in the silk trade between Granada and Damascus and Baghdad. Torrox is on the scenic Route of Sun and Wine and has a population of 12,000 - more during the summer months. The Torrox area lays claim to have "the best climate in Europe" sheltered as it is by the Sierra Tejeda and Sierra Almijara mountains. Thus it boasts an average annual temperature of 18C.

Riofrio is just off the A92 motorway midway between Malaga and Granada. It is a favourite place for people who like the countryside, walking and fishing - and it is as popular for those who like to eat trout as it is with people who like to catch them! There is fishing all year round but you will need a fishing permit.
